Three of France's narrow gauge tourist lines each very different. The metre gauge Vivarais Railway runs for 20 miles up the steep Doux river gorge from Tournon sur Rhone south of Lyon to Lamastre.The Abreschviller Forest Railway is a 70 cm operation in the Alsace region west of Strasburg. Both these lines use Mallet articulated compound locomotives.
The Baie de Somme Railway is a metre gauge system with two branches around the Somme estuary serving seaside towns. It has 2-6-0 tanks as the mainstay of motive power.
